While I have not picked a word of the year (WOTY) in a number of years, if I had to choose one right now, it would be SAVOR. This word captures a number of elements that pop up in articles about happiness, kindness, wellbeing, positivity, longevity, etc. To savor, you need to slow down and be in the moment. Beyond mindfulness of the moment, savoring can also include positive anticipation or fond reminiscing – both positivity practices! When you are savoring something, it is also easy to be grateful for the experience, another aspect of happiness.
Here are just some of the things I am savoring this summer:
- A wonderful multiple-hour Sunday brunch date with friends – yummy food, new drink to try, great conversation.
- Gardening time – Even though it is HOT, it’s wonderful to see the improvement in the Garden Club’s gardens and to know I was part of the transformation. And my gardens are looking lovely – hubby is helping with pruning (a regular need in Florida) and I’ve been playing with moving plants around and adding more yard art.
- Driving Lissa (see post here to meet Lissa) – Top open, windows down, and beach-y music blaring, I am having a blast!
- Peach Smoothies – My favorite summer drink made with fresh Georgia peaches. And then there was also fresh mango from friend’s and neighbor’s trees – just so yummy with yogurt for breakfast.
- Crafting – lots of different dabbling going on here. My latest is the decoupage shells in the header picture.
What are you savoring this summer?

Thanks Jo. I am focusing this summer on being grateful and being here, so savoring is truly helpful.

Hi, Pat – ‘Savour’ is an excellent word-of-the-year. I’ve had a pocket-woty this year and it has remained very true for me (even when I have been busy and tried to ignore it). Lissa is a beauty! My husband and I were both Jeep people before we met and we have remained that way all of these years (even in China)!

I am finding that Jeep people are quite a different breed, especially here in Florida. Did you after-market your Jeeps? Name them? Run with the doors off all the time? I’m not sure how much I’ll get into the culture but it has been fascinating so far.!

Hi, Pat – Sadly, none of the above. I should have clarified that neither Richard or I have never owned a Jeep Wrangler. We are more Cherokee people. Boring, I know!

I agree Pat there is something special about the word ‘savour’. I enjoyed reading about your Summer. I’ve not been well but on the mend now thank goodness. Today I had my family visit and watched my son play soccer yesterday. I’m savouring my family time at the moment. Thanks for linking up with us at WBOYC? and I hope you have a lovely August. x

I didn’t pick a word of the year this year for the first time in many years. Maybe I should just adopt “savor” as my own for the rest of the year? It could only lead to good things, right?

Ally, I have always been a proponent of “steal & reapply”. Why reinvent the wheel? Go for it! I didn’t pick a WOTY either and this just came to me mid-year….so I might consider it for the rest of the year myself. Or just for the summer…. the alliteration is nice. Luckily, there’s not any rules in the game of WOTY in my world!

One of the things I savor in summer is lounging on the front deck in the shade with a breeze wafting over me while I read, look out at the horizon or doze. Aaah, summertime.

Mona, sounds divine. Summertime here this year has been oppressively hot, so not a lot of outside lounging. Not for me anyway when you sweat in the shade. But I have been lounging a bit inside, looking out at the water and reading. Thank goodness for AC!

What a good word! SAVOR! I love that you are savoring your summer! And the shells look fantastic! Savor away!
I’m not sure this is a summer of savor for me. I am trying to be in the moment and to relax with the moments.

Candyse, I like the relax into the moment idea as well. That’s been a part of the summer here as well as the day’s continue to be oppressively hot. I’m thankful for air conditioning, that’s for sure!

Leanne, I am loving the car. Not that I drive that much… it’s only got 340 miles on it in the first month. LOL.

My daughter and grands just returned from Puerto Vallarta and picked up oodles of shells. Will share your beautiful creations with them. They might like painting or decoupaging theirs.
Yay for Lissa bringing such joy. I haven’t had my sunroof open much this summer but look forward to doing a lot of that in the fall.
I am sure working in the gardens is very therapeutic. And you see such wonderful results from your efforts. So proud of you!!

Thanks Leslie. The decoupage shells would be fun activity for the grands. I’m trying to decide what to do with mine…. I’ve now done about 10 of them. That’s one of my challenges with crafts…what to do with the output!
